Term 2, Week 8: Friday 21 June
Kia ora koutou, Mānuka whānau, Congratulations Christina! We are excited to announce that Christina has recently won a position as an Across School Teacher with our Kāhui Ako (Rolleston cluster of schools). This means that Christina will be working with teachers across our network of schools, and will be released from our Mānuka community on Thursdays and Fridays beginning Term 3. You may have seen our advert on Facebook for a 0.4 teacher to cover this time. We will let you know when an appointment has been made. This is an amazing opportunity for Christina and we wish her well. Manuka Survey We have created a survey to gather feedback in regards to our Manuka Information evening. Your responses are anonymous, and the survey will take approximately five minutes to complete. Your responses will help us with our planning of future events, and our general communication with parents. Please make sure you have your say by visiting the survey here. Learning Conferences Last week your child’s goal sheet came home in their bookbags. We have been working on these at school and hope that you are working on them at home also. Toys at school We are having persistent issues with children bringing toys to school from home. This leads to disputes, off-task behaviour and unhappy children and teachers. Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school from now on. For those boys who are bringing little vehicles, we have plenty of school ones to play with at Learning Through Play time. If your child brings home a toy that is not his or hers, please return it to school. Winter Coughs and Colds We are at that time of year when there are lots of bugs flying around. We would really appreciate you keeping your child at home if they are unwell to try and contain the spread of colds etc. Please remember to phone the WMS office if your child is going to be away from school on a particular day. We hope that you have an enjoyable and safe weekend - only two weeks to go! Ngā mhi nui, The Mānuka Team Term 2, Week 6: Friday 7 June Kia ora koutou, Mānuka whānau, Learning Conferences Last week we had our Student Led Conferences on Thursday afternoon/evening and Friday. Thank you for coming along with your child/children to see how they are progressing and to set future goals, we really appreciate your time and energy for this important part of our term. A copy of your child’s goals and agreed actions to support these goals will be coming home at the end of week 7 so look out for these! Our Mānuka Blog You will see a new page on our blog with a copy of the presentation that we gave to whānau at our Parent Information Evening on the 21st of May. As well as the presentation, there are the questions and answers that we covered and a link to a survey about our information evening. Thank you to those parents that were able to attend this evening. Wet day activities at lunchtime With winter well and truly making its presence known this week we are once again thinking about how we can best support the children in our community on days when outside play is not possible during morning tea and lunch breaks. A number of teachers are running activities that your child can take part in this term when it is raining and details of those will be shared with your child in the coming days. Something we found interesting A lot of our learners set themselves an ICE DRIVER goal of increasing their resilience in our recent conferences. This is a really important skill for children to have and therefore we have decided to have a ‘Discovery Friday’ all about resilience to support this goal. In the meantime the team have recently read an article that we thought you may find interesting, please see the link below if you would like to read it too. https://deeprootsathome.com/kids-friendless-bored-impatient/?fbclid=IwAR2szuuL_0Dwh1c3zKxuTi4Swo_H0Nj7TpAes_M_h3V_poXwQp_d2X9rAMg We hope that you have a relaxing weekend and stay warm!
